`ISLAND DREAMS' by Gino Santos / Aloy Adlawan - Premiere Night 18 December 2013

ISLAND DREAMS  (romantic comedy) – from Kenau Pictures Production, written by Aloy Adlawan, co-directed by Aloy Adlawan and Gino Santos.

`Island Dreams ' Official Trailer

CAST:  Louise delos Reyes, Alexis Petitprez (French actor), Irma Adlawan, Chanel Latorre, Hector Macaso, Natasha Villaroman.

SYNOPSIS:  An underprivileged Filipina who dreams to become a singer meets an American vacationer looking for a one night stand, both ultimately finding something else

After disturbing us with `The Animals', Director Gino Santos (this time with Aloy Adlawan) steers us 180 degrees to `Island Dreams', a fun and heartwarming romantic comedy involving two people with diametrically opposing views on true love - one is disillusioned with it, while the other relentlessly pursues his mission of finding it.

Louise Delos Reyes plays Julie effectively, as if the character had been patterned after her. Chanel La Torre is delightful to watch as Julie's equally fun but `naughty' sister Karen. Casting the two as sisters was uncannily cunning, since they seem to be each other's doppelganger. In the initial scenes, I actually thought it was Chanel testing the limits of my eardrums.

`Island Dreams' is enjoyable to watch and highly recommended. After the premiere, I could hear the audience screaming for a sequel already. Catch it while it's still showing at MMFF (though I'm confident it will have a commercial run in the future).

Below are the remaining MMFF Screening Times:

Monday 23 December 2013 - 11:00am (SM Megamall)
Monday 23 December 2013 - 7:30pm (Glorietta 4)
Tuesday 24 December 2013 - 12:30pm (SM Megamall)
Tuesday 24 December 2013 - 6:40pm (Glorietta 4)

Julie (Louise Delos Reyes) agrees to be a tour guide for Zach (Alexis Petitprez) as he searches for True Love’s Peak, a secluded place in the island famous for its myth that anyone who finds it will find true love.

SAPI by Brillante Mendoza - Private Screening at Solar Films

ANO ANG KINAKATAKUTAN MO?

Dante explains that for the casting, he needed actors who has no projects for a particular time period. Shooting dates are uncertain and depends on major factors like, for example, when a call is received for an actual possession taking place. The actors would then be called on the spot and they would head off to the location and witness the Sapi.

Direk Dante says basically there is no script, only the situations are presented. Everyone is free to wing it. Actress Meryll Soriano talks about `giving in to the process'. There is no other way to do it. She actualy uilt her character during the shoot.

Film critic Philbert Dy of `Click the City' interviews Direk

Animal Imagery : If `Serbis' had the goat, `Sapi' has the sawa. Suddenly appearing out of nowhere and being the focus of attention, I wonder if this was a trademark of a Dante Mendoza movie. Other animals make cameos throughout, like the cockroach and the dog.

The characters' first names are also the first names of the real actors/actresses who play them.
