1ST SEM was nominated for Best Picture at the CineFilipino Film Festival in 2016
At the All Lights India International Film Festival, it won the Best Debut Director's Film for Dexter Hemedez and Allan Ibanez, as well as garnering Special Acting Citation Awardee for Lead Actress LotLot Deleon.
1ST SEM is a coming-of-age story about 16-year old Maru Marasigan (Darwin Yu), who leaves the province and is accompanied by the whole family to the university in Manila, where he will be studying, and staying in a dormitory for the duration of his studies.
The first night sees him experiencing an extreme bout of loneliness, which prods him to return immediately to his home in the province. His mother is naturally surprised and angry, and thus causes mother-and-son conflicts throughout.
