`BRIDE FOR RENT' special screening @ The Podium

The Kim Chiu Global Fans Club held a special block screening of `Bride For Rent' at The Podium. Bloggers (like me!) were invited to attend.

Celebrity Runner at the Movies

`Bride for Rent' tells the story of a free-wheeling bachelor Rocco (Xian Lim) who has to show he is married in order to receive a Trust Fund bestowed on him on his 25th Birthday, and thus pay off millions in casino debts. He hires Rocky (Kim) to act as his bride, to convince his Lola Lala (Pilita Corales) of his marital status. Their antipodean characters pave the way for a series of hilarious situations and confrontations.

For those who want to be entertained, this is a fun movie involving the Odd Uncouple of Rocco and Rocky. The acting by the lead stars is commendable, tears came on cue, and they connected with each other (or `unconnected' as required). It was my first time to watch Kim Chiu and Xian Lim acting, since my inclination is more on indie films.

The presence of Pilita Corales as Lala was the biggest plus of the movie for me. This iconic singer is a delight to watch in all her scenes. Hope to see more of her in the future.

Yes, the movie has a message, or messages - that everlasting love is possible (as testified by real-life couples), saying sorry makes you a better person, and people can change for the better.

After the screening, lead actress Kim Chiu surprised us by making an appearance and giving a speech at the front.

 Invited guests were given free decorated chocolate cupcakes in `Bride For Rent' themed packaging by Dominic (yummy!)

The film is directed by Mae Czarina Cruz.
